ReviewerZero and Karger Publishers Partner to Strengthen Research Integrity

New partnership with Karger Publishers will accelerate their already strong research integrity strategy by giving the research integrity / publication ethics team access to the entire suite of ReviewerZero’s AI-powered platform.
We are excited to announce a new partnership between ReviewerZero and Karger Publishers. Karger—a family-run publisher founded in 1890—has built a reputation for strong publication ethics across its 90+ health science journals thanks to forward-looking strategies in publishing and research integrity.
This collaboration will enable Karger’s research integrity / publication ethics team to leverage ReviewerZero’s AI-powered platform to detect a wide range of manuscript integrity issues at scale. In an era where scholarly journals face increasing challenges—from statistical errors to manipulated images—our combined efforts will help strengthen the already high standards of scientific integrity in Karger’s publication process.
Researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers and our wider community rely on trustworthy publications in health sciences to guide clinical practice and inform research priorities. At Karger, we are embracing technology to support the crucial work of our Editors, reviewers, and journal teams in safeguarding that trust. Partnering with ReviewerZero, strengthens our ability to detect potential integrity concerns in papers, further equipping our research integrity team and Editors with the tools to continue to uphold the reliability of our publications.

ReviewerZero’s Key Integrity Checks
At ReviewerZero, we have developed a broad suite of automated tools that scrutinize multiple facets of a manuscript. By combining these integrity checks in one platform, we help publishers catch problems that might otherwise be overlooked by manual review. Karger’s team will now have access to the following key capabilities of the ReviewerZero platform:
- Scientific Author Verification: Uses AI-powered analysis to verify the identity and credentials of academic authors by cross-referencing real-time web search results, publication records, and institutional data. This feature checks authorship claims against multiple academic databases and faculty directories.
- Expanded Image Duplication Detection: Provides advanced in-browser image analysis to identify duplicated or reused images across manuscripts or across the internet. This will deepen the tools that Karger already uses in its pipeline.
- Statistical Validation: Performs automated consistency checks on reported statistics. ReviewerZero verifies that values presented in the text, tables, and methods align correctly, helping to catch reporting inconsistencies or possible errors in statistical results. This dramatically reduces the time editors spend double-checking calculations and ensures the statistical soundness of the manuscript.
- AI Content Detection: Will flag AI-generated text and images in manuscripts using advanced language-model analysis and image forensics, as well as cryptographically verifying metadata. This helps journals detect when generative AI tools may have produced content without disclosure.
- Citation & Reference Analysis: Validates the relevance and accuracy of cited references. The platform checks that each reference is appropriate and not mis-cited, and it cross-checks citations against sources like Retraction Watch to alert if a referenced paper has been retracted or flagged.
- Figure Accessibility: Evaluates figures to ensure that figures meet accessibility standards for contrast and color-blind readability. This not only upholds an ethical image handling approach but also enhances the usability of published figures for all readers.
AI peer review
In addition to the above, ReviewerZero is continually expanding its toolkit. We recently launched an AI peer review system that incorporates structured feedback and reproducibility estimation.
Karger is among the first publishers to pilot the comprehensive AI-driven integrity checks with their Research Integrity / Publication Ethics team. We look forward to helping Karger’s editors and integrity team in identifying potential errors and supporting best practices before publication. Together, ReviewerZero and Karger are helping to ensure that published research is trustworthy and reproducible.
