We are proud to announce that ReviewerZero AI has been named a finalist for the 2026 EPIC Awards by the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP). Our platform was selected in the Integrity Tools subcategory under Tools and Products. Winners will be announced at the EPIC Awards Celebration on May 28 in Chula Vista, CA, during SSP's 48th Annual Meeting.
The Excellence in Publishing, Information Technology, & Communications (EPIC) Awards are now in their second year. SSP received over 98 entries across five categories this year, and we are honored to be recognized among the finalists advancing scholarly publishing through innovation and collaboration.
Why This Matters Now
This recognition comes at a critical moment for science. The volume of AI-generated scholarly content is growing faster than the community's ability to verify it.
Over 1% of all scholarly articles published in 2023 were substantially assisted by large language models, totaling more than 60,000 papers. By 2024, that figure had risen sharply to 20% in computer science and 10% in other fields. The problem extends beyond manuscripts. 21% of peer reviews submitted to ICLR 2026 were fully AI-generated, with more than half of all reviews showing some signs of AI use. AI-generated figures are difficult for even trained experts to distinguish from real data.
As AI lowers the cost and time required to produce manuscripts, figures, and peer reviews, the bottleneck in scholarly publishing shifts from production to verification.
